Caples Lake in Winter

As promised, here is a lovely photo of my partner and fellow adventurer with a frozen Caples Lake for the background. We were crossing the mountain pass to the Eastern Sierras when we came upon this lovely seen and ended up staying till sunset to watch the mountains change from white to orange to blue in the fading light. The lake’s ice was ominously cracking and creaking but we saw people skate across the whole this without incident.  Would you skate across this lake if you saw someone else do it or would you want more reassurance?

Setting Sun from Bridgeport

One thing I love about the Eastern Sierra mountains is how different they can look depending on the clouds, the weather, the time of the year. Fall colors change the landscape from yellow, to gold, to orange and brown. Add a few clouds and a sunset and you get even more spectacular tones. The windswept grassy fields around Bridgeport create a beautiful foreground to the stunning Sierra Crags that rise above the Twin Lakes Region off in the distance. A light dusting of snow has coated the peaks. I imagine now they are completely covered in snow. Can’t wait to get back up here and explore some more. What is your favorite spot to hike around Bridgeport, California?

First trip to Hawaii! (Video)

Just put together this little slide show of some of my favorite photos from my recent trip to Hawaii. This was my first big trip of the year! Where else should I go this year? Any tips on how I can improve my videos? I know I have a lot to learn but it’s fun just getting started! Thanks for watching and please share, like, and subscribe to my YouTube channel.

My new website is live!

I’ve been working on putting together a real portfolio, with prints available, showcasing my favorite shots from around the world. Its an on going work on progress, but I decided to go ahead and make it live so you guys can check it out. Let me know what you think and how I can improve. If you really love some of my photos, feel free to buy some prints. I’ve kept the prices super reasonable (small prints for just $1!). I’d rather more people be able to enjoy my work than to make a ton of profit right away.  Below are a sample of some of the photos I’ve put up on my page

Have you ever taken a walk through the ferns

Montgomery Woods is a lesser known redwood forest that is equally beautiful. The lush green forest floor is full of ferns and moss which make a green carpet often rising as high as my head. Towering 200-300 feet above are the magnificent coastal redwoods. What a beautiful site.

This is my introductory video to my relatively new YouTube channel. I will be posting several times a week. The videos are not really a vlog but rather short clips to show the places I hike to and adventure around. I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoy making them! What would you like to see me film more of?

Have you ever seen a sunset quite this lovely?

I love the pacific northwest. there is so much to explore and so much variety in landscapes, wildlife, and weather patterns. Not to mention good food, better coffee, and lovely people. Cape Flattery was one of the best sunsets I’ve seen. The trail leading to it is like a fairyland, full of beautiful greens and blues and made of wooden planks. The water rushes all around you and a lighthouse stands guard off on a distant Island. What’s your favorite sunset ever?

We almost got Eaten by a bear!

While hiking in King’s Canyon last summer, we came across this young black bear foraging for grubs and berries. He came right up close to us! We didn’t want to run as to cause him to think we were prey, but we did want to keep a safe distance. He didn’t seem to mind us at all and kept about his business before walking away into the forest. Very cool and just a bit scary.
